What a Day!

Today was the first day of classes for my sophomore year....

The morning began with my College Writing II class in which the teacher explained we would take off most Fridays and would end class a week early. :-)  Sounds pretty amazing to me!  Then I had chapel.  I LOVE my chapel seat.  I am the farthest row back but because of the pillars the row has a lot of breaks in it making it extremely easy to find my seat.  I don't have to crawl over people anymore!  Plus my chapel buddies were really nice and were ready to socialize...a vast difference from last year.

After chapel I had Biology with all of my roommates.  How do I explain biology? Well, the teacher walked around with a tarantula while my roommates squealed.  Meanwhile the professor kind of dragged out all that needed to be explained, making me rush to my next class. Interesting is perhaps the best word.

American Government followed.  I honestly do not know what the professor said during that class.  He talked so fast and changed topics a dozen time.  It was entertaining though!

After history I had my lunch date with Kayla and then my World History Class.  Let's just say all of my professors were really nice today....though a tad odd.  But that will just make the classes more interesting!  They each have a unique personality that will definitely make the class memorable.  After all of my classes were done it was time to work for a few hours before I finally came home and literally fell onto the couch.

I did force myself off of the couch around 6 to go to the apartment's BBQ, but came back to my beloved spot shortly after.  I've spent the evening walking, watching tv, and writing in my planner.

Overall the day was crazy!  But I have to remember that today wasn't a typical schedule because some extra things were thrown in---and that tomorrow will be much easier!

Well I am exhausted from the day and have to open at work tomorrow so I think I will call it a night!

I love you all!  Oh, and I love the fact that people actually read this blog!

Love,
Sarah

P.S. Thanks for the encouragement and prayers!

Classes Begin

Well tomorrow is the day...classes will begin, the onslaught of homework will appear on my desk, and the long spans of time to relax will slowly disappear.  But for now, let's focus on today.

I was able to sleep in until around 10:00 and then slowly each of my roommates woke up and worked to get ready for yearbook pictures.  After lunch in Ludwig and a trip to the bookstore for a new shirt it was back to the apartment.  I spent most of my time writing in my planner and printing off each class syllabus.  Some classes seem as though they might be overwhelming...but I am sure it will all work out.  This evening the apartments were required to attend a meeting on basic rules and procedures.  The workers performed multiple songs to which they changed the words to explain the dress code.  Hilarious! Plus my new favorite quote..."Modest is Hottest." After the meetings I talked to my parents for a while and then worked out.  Speaking of working out...I was pretty excited this morning when I found out I have lost 6 pounds!  The trick will be to maintain that as the days come.  I have been having an issue with being motivated lately to work out, but hopefully I will receive some support.  Speaking of support, tonight as I have been kind of struggling to feel prepared and motivated for all that is to come, this verse has really spoken to me.

"Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long." Psalm 25:4-5

I pray that this semester is filled with growth in not only my education but in my relationship with God and with those around.

Love,
Sarah

Move-In Day 2

I know I promised pictures....and don't worry they are still on their way.  I'll explain as I write.

This morning I woke up and proceeded to straighten my hair by looking on my computer screen.  Our mirror in the bathroom is too tall for me to see anything but my chin and nose.  We also have a mirror in the hallway but we have yet to find an outlet close.  We need to find a way to figure it out.  Once everyone was ready we went to North Campus Church.  I really enjoyed the music today.  They sang two of my favorite songs.  I absolutely love the way songs sound when they have girl and guy parts.  This was by far my favorite song that really spoke to me this morning.

The song is by Mike Cowart and is called "Even If I Fall"

I absolutely <3 the chorus!
"Even I Fall I'll rise again, For Your are my God, Even if I fall You lift me up."

After church Steph, Sarah, Denver, Kayla, and I had lunch in Ludwig.  The potatoes were good... ;-)

Then we made a Wal-Mart trip...man was that place crazy! But we completed a lot of the shopping we needed.  Plus I went to the bookstore and finished buying all of the books I need---that was quite an expensive stop.

The rest of the day has been spent organizing, decorating, building, and unpacking.  But we are almost done.  We have a few more items to buy tomorrow and then we will be able to call it complete.  That is when I will post pictures!  But you should be excited because it is looking really good!

Have I mentioned that I love my apartment?! Tonight I made myself pasta.  I made some extra so I could pack lunch for work tomorrow and then the rest I enjoyed with some butter and parmesan.  I love making myself dinner!

Then I went on a walk and talked to my parents about some things....plus my dad helped me to figure out how to work my HDMI cable.

Now my roommates and I have just been relaxing and watching some television.  There is still more to do I am sure---but quite frankly I am exhausted.

Tomorrow I need to work most of the day but I will still try to post tomorrow night!

Love you all!
Sarah

Things I Love

  1. I love God who has given me such wonderful blessings in life.
  2. I love my family who is always there to love and support me...plus they are fabulous at helping me move in!
  3. I love my awesome friends! Tonight we just hung around the apartment and put things away.  But let me tell you, I never knew putting together a lamp could be so much fun! :-)
  4. I love my apartment!  The space is amazing! Plus I love my roommates! Oh and the fact that my bestie Kayla is just two floors up! (I will post pictures tomorrow...I am waiting until everything is organized and put the way we want.)
  5. Pretty much I am just loving this day!  I was able to see friends I missed over the summer, was able to see my room from last year and meet some lovely freshman, and was reminded of why God placed me at this school.  Well it has been a long day, and let's face it my roommates and I are going to talk before we go to bed.  So for now I shall sign off.  But I will post pictures soon! I promise!

Love,
Sarah

Countdown...5 days!

Well since it has been so long since I have written (oops!) I think I will work on just the past few days rather than the past week I have failed to post about.  Since college is on my mind (you can't tell I move into my apartment in 5 days can you?) I will catch you up on that stuff.

Saturday was the Dump and Run.  I had never heard of this event, but a friend told my mom about it and we decided to give it a try.  Basically one weekend they have the "dump" part and anyone in the town can come and dump their old junk (couches, chairs, ottomans, tables, chairs, books, dishes, toilet paper (I thought that one was a little weird), suitcases, and the list goes on and on).  Then the next weekend comes the "run."  Doors open at 8 am and anyone can pay $2 to get in and then can shop until they drop!  Prices are incredibly cheap.  I found a chair that has the fabric of one of my parent's super nice couches and swivels for only $15.  Plus it is small in size so it will fit perfectly in my apartment.

Sorry the picture is sideways..
I also found a wooden kitchen table that has sides that can fold up or down for only $20.

But one of my favorite buys was the storage ottoman I found that has a paisley pattern on it in blue and brown (the colors of our living room) for only $5.  Later when I went to a store I saw a similar ottoman for $40...so I scored a deal!

I should learn to rotate my pictures ahead of time or take them the right way. lol

Then the next day you can go back to the sale at a certain time, pay the $2 entrance again and grab anything for free.  I wanted kitchen chairs (they didn't come with my table) but didn't want to pay the full price.  So my uncle went for me and scored four matching chairs! Overall the sale was a ton of fun.
After shopping at a few thrift stores and garage sales the rest of the morning, I spent the afternoon doing a few things around the room and then I baby-sat Lauren, Jacob, and Melody.  We had so much fun.  We played movie theater.  I made them all fake money and tickets and had them purchase their tickets and their drinks, popcorn, and candy.  Plus we had to quiet all of our cell phones! :-)  They got quite a chuckle out of the game.

Sunday I spent the early part of the afternoon going through my DVDs and shoes to decide what I wanted to take to school.  Then I packed up the van with the coffee table, chair, microwave, and some other odds and ends and headed to school.  Stephanie was able to move from her temporary housing in Williams to our apartment.  We got to school around 6ish and moved all the beds and dressers into the big room and the desks into the small.  (That was a workout!)  Then we moved all of Stephanie's items in.  I also was able to meet some of the staff of the apartment which was fun.  Our apartment is a really good size.  Plus I noticed we have a new fridge!  I am very excited to move-in and see how everything looks with all of our decorations.

Well the rest of my week will be filled with working and packing.  Wish me luck!

Until later,
Sarah

Perhaps my eyes are too big...

These past few days I just haven't had the strength or the energy to stay up long enough to clean my room, organize school stuff, let alone write in this blog.  But, since it is on my to do list for today I must get this done.  So let me catch things up.

Saturday started out by a lovely lunch at Maggianos.  Their bread is literally amazing!  I probably said this just a few blog entries ago...but seriously, the bread is absolutely delicious.  After a wonderful lunch at Maggianos we literally shopped until we dropped.  We went to the mall first and shopped for John at stores like the Buckle and Express.  We shopped for mom at Brookstone and the Croc Store, and I went to Forever 21 and American Eagle.  I purchased some cute shirts to wear and some accessories that weren't too expensive.  I saw this one bracelet I really wanted in Express but it was like $30.  I walked across the mall to American Eagle and saw a bracelet that looked extremely similar for less than half of that.  I was happy. :) Then after the mall we went to the Container Store.  This is the second time now that I have gone there without purchasing anything.  Criminal.  After the Container Store we went to Target...which probably seems weird since we have one here, but I was in desperate need of a new planner.  Plus I found this cool multiplication workbook that I can use for tutoring.  By the time we were extremely tired of shopping, my dad and the other workers were ready for a dinner break so we went to the Cheesecake Factory.  Who would have guessed that it was Cheesecake Day and therefore all cheesecakes were half off! I stuck with the original cheesecake but man was it good!
My delicious pasta that I could not finish from Maggianos.

My mom was sad that John didn't play with Legos anymore.
Sunday I got up early (well for it being the weekend) and went to brunch in the hotel.  Then my mom, John, and I walked around Borders and Nordstrom Rack in a zombie state before realizing my dad would have to wait until the afternoon to do the work testing.  We decided to go to the movies since it would be a while.  I love the movie theater in Schaumburg.  It is huge! We saw Crazy, Stupid, Love.  It was okay, but probably not one I would want to see again.  By the time the movie was over it was time to pick my dad up and grab some lunch/dinner.  We went to Rock Bottom where I had some delicious macaroni and cheese.  We got home kind of late and were all pretty tired.  So I exercised and cleaned up a little before heading to bed.
Loews Theatre--an amazing theater!

Today I had to work from 8-1.  I took care of some VBS things like making the schedules and signs for each classroom.  Then I tutored and headed to the church to decorate.  We worked up until the last possible minute, but managed to get everything done in time.  We had 16 kids tonight and overall I think night one of Vacation Bible School was a success.  I am so glad we have workers who are willing to shift from position to position depending on where they are needed most.  We told the kids that some special guests are coming tomorrow.  We gave them the hint that the people coming are heroes.  One girl asked if it was Michael Jackson.  :)  Oh and Batman was guessed at one point too.  You have to love the perspective of little kids.

As for the title of this blog. I've heard it said many times when someone orders too much food and can't eat it all, that their eyes were too big for their stomach.  Well perhaps our eyes can be too big for wallets as well.  It seems as though I look around and see things I would like to have and just can't seem to afford.  Now I realize this is part of life and growing up, having to pay bills and car repairs instead of splurging money on purses.  However, I also realize that a lot of the having to be tight with my money lately comes from the fact that this England trip is completely draining my savings...and that is slightly discouraging.  I guess it will all work out in the end though.

Well today is my mom's birthday so after VBS we came back and opened presents and some people ate cake.  I refrained somehow since I have really been trying to lose weight.  I even forced myself to stand on my pained feet to exercise for 40 minutes tonight.  I did a Richard Simmons video which was interesting to say the least.  I am losing my motivation to exercise and need to find some more ways to make it interesting.

Well I must get to sleep.  Tomorrow is my afternoon shift at work but I can't sleep in because I have to go get a test done at the doctor.  Oh well...it will be worth it to have some answers.

Night all!  I can finally check "post blog" off of my to do list and head to bed!
